forms for ISO/IEEE functional/design specs or Business Plan?

Posted in

Greetings from a newcomer....

At Tektronix, Network General, Analogy, Mentor Graphics, and other companies I worked at, members of the team prepared a Project Proposal, Functional Spec, Design Spec, Test Plan, Release Plan, etc. using a form that automatically incremented subsections.

Example:

1
1.1
1.1.1
1.1.2
1.2
2

and so on.
Any injecting of a new section would automatically update the document's numbering, via incrementing/decrementing and indentation. It was quite convenient. I believe that the Framemaker, Word, Pagemaker, and WordPerfect all had this as a standard feature.

My experience with Apple's word processor is that it changes names (Corel Works, Appleworks, iWorks) more than adding new features. I could be wrong. I do go back to the Apple II+as a loyal user. My irk that Apple still has no decent "adult" sports simulation games (like Strat-O-Matic Baseball) is matched by this business basic. So, if anyone can share their discovery of a Business Plan and IEEE-spec standard forms, I will happily eat cyber-crow.

Perhaps it is just a case of not seeing a setting option?

I will share whatever I glean in any case.

best wishes,
chris
